It’s that time of year when the season is starting to wind down. There’s still a couple more months of racing but with the Olympics now over most people are taking breaks, some have gone off to school, and other guys are just starting back up. I have decided to race the remaining 2 World Cup events so I’m right in the thick of training.

Everyone in the training group is at a different stage right now so we’re pretty much on our own for a little while. Both the pools in Victoria are in a transition phase right now too as they are closed for 3 weeks of maintenance. So, while both Crystal and Commonwealth are closed I’m over in Vancouver right now training out of UBC. I’ve been here for just over a week now. It’s a pretty good setup. There are two 50m pools about a 5 minute walk from where I’m staying, one indoor and one outdoor. The running trails are great. You can go for at least 90 minutes without ever running on the same trail twice. The riding isn’t too bad. It’s busy going through town but it’s pretty quiet along the waterfront and Stanley Park is great if you don’t mind doing loops. I rode up Mt. Seymour last week too and it was awesome. There’s a few other decent climbs in the area that I might explore later on.

It’s been nice to change up the scenery a bit. I love training with the group but now is the perfect time for something different. It’s been a long year so far and I feel re-energized already. I’m looking forward to these last two races.
