Yesterday morning we ran the Bazan Bay 5k in Sidney. I wasn’t expecting to run too fast going in but I was still looking forward to having a crack at it. We’ve had a pretty solid month of training since Maui so it was nice to mix it up a bit.
The race went out pretty quick. I was able to stay relatively relaxed for the first half. Simon and I opened up a small gap out to the turnaround but Scott Simpson came back on us around 3k. He went straight to the front and started putting in lots of surges. We were all together until about 4k and then I started to fall off. It felt like in all out sprint from about 800 out. Simon and Scott fought it out right to the finish and unfortunately I had to watch from behind. Scott ended up winning, Simon was second, and I was third. I ran 14:49 which was only 5 seconds off my personal best on the track from a few years ago. With some added speed work in the next couple months I think I can take a good chunk out of that time.
