WCS Grand Final

Tough race in Budapest yesterday. It was definitely not my day. I felt like I was pressing the whole race, right from the beginning of the swim. I was never able to settle in. Every race this year I’ve been able to swim comfortably in the front group but yesterday it was a real struggle just hanging on the back. I just kept telling myself “get to land and you’ll be okay”.

Unfortunately things didn’t get much better. As soon as I hopped on the bike my calves started cramping. I was able to ride through it and actually felt okay for a few laps but I struggled every time I had to accelerate.

I was hoping things would turnaround for the run but when I bent over to put my shoes on in transition my quads went into full spasm. I knew at that point it was going to be a rough run. I tried to push through but my legs just wouldn’t cooperate. I crossed the finish line in 37th place.

I’m disappointed to finish the 2010 World Championship Series with this result. I felt like I was very well prepared for this race. I felt great all week so it’s frustrating not being able to execute on the day.

I’ll be hanging around today to watch Paula and the juniors, then I’m off to Amsterdam tomorrow for a few days, then to France for a Grand Prix race next weekend.

  1. Kyle, Way to gut it out and finish that race. If you find any answers on the cramping I would like to hear about it. I had the same thing happen 1500 into the run of a sprint tri. I wrote it off to hammering too hard on the bike. But yours happened right after the swim. Great to follow your results this year. Greg
