Edmonton World Cup Highlights CBC’s Sports Saturday
—Catch Lauren Campbell and Kyle Jones’ first World Cup victories at 5 EDT—
Fans of triathlon across the country will have the opportunity to watch Canada’s triathletes’ recent medal haul at the Edmonton World Cup, presented by COLD-FX, on CBC Sports Saturday, July 21 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Canada’s men’s and women’s triathletes dominated the podium with two gold and two silver medals in the World Cup sprint race in Edmonton’s Hawrelak Park.
Recently named first-time Olympian, Kyle Jones of Oakville, Ont., and Vancouver’s Lauren Campbell both captured their first World Cup victories under glorious sunny skies with more than 7,500 Canadian fans cheering them down the finishing stretch. The lone World Cup stop in Canada also served as the National Championships for the nation’s elite triathletes.
Equally as thrilling as Jones’ victory in the men’s race was 21-year-old Alexander Hinton picking off many of the top names in the sport on the run to climb his way into second spot in his first-ever World Cup start.
Winnipeg’s 22-year-old Sarah-Anne Brault, who was named an Olympic alternate this month with Campbell, had a career-best World Cup finish in second spot in the women’s race.
